Man dies after getting buried under beans

BRUSH, Colo. – An employee at a bean company on Colorado’s northeastern plains died Thursday when he was buried under a pile of pinto beans and suffocated, authorities said.

The incident occurred at about 11:20 a.m. at Kelly Bean Co. in Brush, Colo.

According the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, Raymond Segura, Jr., 56, was dug out from the bottom of a pile of pinto beans 15-20 feet high, roughly an hour after he was buried.

Morgan County paramedics and a Medevac Air Life crew pronounced Segura dead a short time later.

“The exact cause of how Mr. Segura ended up being trapped is still under investigation continues by the coroner and sheriff’s office, OSHA investigators, and Kelley’s safety team,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
