SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Josh Outman had earned a place on the Colorado Rockies roster as a reliever but apparently could have used some relief of his own.

It was reported today that the 27-year-old southpaw was placed on the disabled list with a strained oblique muscle caused, not as might be expected by the hurling of a baseball but hurling of another kind – as in vomiting – or as it was explained, violent vomiting.

Although somewhat embarrassing, manager Jim Tracy appeared to consider it plausible.

As disappointing as it must be to Outman, it is not among the most humiliating baseball injuries of all time.

Which ones are more ridiculous, well here they are:

1) Atlanta Braves pitcher John Smoltz burns himself while ironing a shirt – while he was wearing it.
2) Pitcher Adam Eaton stabs himself while trying to open a DVD.
3) Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Glenallen Hill falls through a glass table after awakening from a nightmare about spiders.
4) San Francisco second baseman Jeff Kent claims he broke his wrist when he fell off his car while washing it.
5) Outfielder Marty Cordova misses part of season due to severe sun burn – not from the sun but while in a tanning salon.
6) Hall-of-Fame third baseman Wade Boggs misses seven games after straining his back while trying to put on a pair of cowboy boots.
7) Second baseman Brett Barberie misses a game after making nachos. After chopping hot chili he burns his eyes after rubbing them.
8) Sammy Sosa misses a game after suffering back spasms from sneezing too hard.
9) Hall-of-Famer Ricky Henderson misses three games after getting frost-bite when he falls asleep on an ice pack.
10) Kevin Mitchell chips a tooth while eating a stale doughnut
