Denver Botanic Gardens Mother’s Day Sale begins

DENVER — More than 60 years ago, the Denver Botanic Garden plant sale began, offering residents plants of all types, including rare and unusual plants from around the world suited for diverse Rocky Mountain landscape conditions.

More than 85,000 plants are up for sale at the York Street gardens, beginning Thursday with the sneak pre-view garden party. $30 bucks gets you first crack at the best of the best plants. But if you want to wait until Friday or Saturday, admission is free both days between 8:30 a.m. and about 6 p.m.

“We have this sale down to a science,” said Will Jones of the Gardens. “Our hope is that our plants will give residents a chance to make wonderful gardens or plantings in their homes and yards.

Many visitors at the gardens Thursday were eyeballing plants they plan to come back and perhaps purchase this Mother’s Day weekend.

This year, an offering of plants from around the globe will be up for sale, and for the bulb lovers out there, you can pre-order fall bulbs this weekend.

And of course, there are experts at the sale to help with any questions you might have about water conservation, planting and environmental stewardship.
