Man kills ex’s boyfriend, crashes car fleeing from police
PUEBLO, Colo. – A man died Saturday morning after he was shot and killed by his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend.
The Pueblo Chieftain reports that at approximately 1:54 a.m., suspect Matthew Aldaz, 25, confronted his ex-girlfriend and then fired “multiple times” at her boyfriend near the 7-Eleven at 905 W. Northern Ave.
The Pueblo County Coroner identified the victim as 38-year-old Thomas Abeyta.
After the shooting occurred, Pueblo police said the suspect left the scene and wrecked his car two blocks away in the 1100 block of E. Northern.
The driver was ejected from the car during the police chase, and is being treated for serious bodily injury at a local hospital.
The paper said the shooting “appears to be the result of Aldaz’s jealous rage.”
The suspect is still in the hospital and no arrests have been made.
