DENVER – There was a different crowd that gathered at a Denver church Sunday, and many of them walked on all fours.

The Wellshire Presbyterian Church on Colorado Blvd. hosted its annual Blessing of the Animals Sunday morning, where dogs, cats, bunnies and snakes were among the critters that came forward to be blessed during the worship service.

The event was meant to honor St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. The church also wanted to provide a unique opportunity for people to gather with their pets in an inclusive environment.

The church’s head pastor, Rev. John Bell, Jr., has also officiated animal blessings at the Denver Dumb Friend’s League, where he adopted two of his own dogs.
