DENVER — Late Wednesday night, Denver Police arrested three suspects that will be charged with murder, robbery and arson after police found five dead bodies in a burning bar on a busy street in southeast Denver on Wednesday morning.

Denver Police Commander Ron Saunier identified those three suspects as Dexter Louis, 22, Joseph Hill, 27, and Lynell Hill, 24. Saunier said Louis was taken into custody in the 8300 block of East Colfax and that Joseph and Lynell were taken into custody in the 2400 block of Quebec Street.

All three men were arrested shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday, police said. Those arrests came less than 24 hours after police recovered five bodies from Fero’s Bar & Grill on 351 Colorado Boulevard shortly after 2 a.m., after discovering the structure was on fire.

“It appears that the motive of this crime was robbery,” Saunier said. “We don’t want to say it was a robbery gone bad at this point. We’re still at the beginning of our investigation, but we do believe the arson was set in an effort to cover up the crime.”

Saunier did say was that police believe everyone who was involved in the crime is in custody at this time. Saunier said he expects that each suspect will be charged with five counts of first degree murder, aggravated robbery and arson.

Lewis has the most extensive criminal record of the three suspects, and had just finished a three-year prison term in June after pleading guilty to robbery and assaulting a police officer in 2009.

There was no indication given by Saunier or Denver Police Chief Robert White about whether or not the crime was gang-related. Neither gave any further reasoning as to why Fero’s Bar & Grill was targeted.

The five victims found dead inside the bar were owner Young Fero, 63, Daria Pohl, 22, Kellene Fallon, 45, Tereasa Beesley, 45, and Ross Richter, 29.
