Man arrested for sexually assaulting fellow Waldo Canyon Fire volunteer

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. — After being sent to aid victims of the Waldo Canyon Fire by the Red Cross, police say Allen Crabtree sexually victimized one of his fellow volunteers.

Court documents filed in Colorado Springs say Crabtree, 71, and a group of people were having dinner and drinks in downtown Colorado Springs in July. When the others left, he and the alleged victim continued to another bar.

The female remembers paying her bar tab before she “blacked out,” according to those documents. Her next memory is waking up naked on a hotel bed with Crabtree pacing back and forth naked and saying, “You’re so young. You’re so young.”

The victim said she felt different than other times she has been intoxicated, saying she blacked out again for a second time. When she woke up, she said she was wearing only her panties.

After flying home to Texas, the woman reported having vaginal pain. She later developed an infection, which did not begin until after she woke up in Crabtree’s hotel room.

In a recorded conversation between the victim and Crabtree, the 71-year-old is heard saying that the two attempted to have sex before he experienced performance issues. Crabtree said the two kissed and fondled each other, adding he wished he could take back what had happened.

The victim, who lives in Texas, did not report the sexual assault until Aug. 23 to the Austin Police Department. The law enforcement agency referred the case to Colorado Springs.
