COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Two people were killed after being hit by a vehicle while they were pushing a van that had run out of gas, Colorado Springs police said.
The pair, a man and a boy, were hit around 4 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Pikes Peak Avenue and North Parkside Drive.
According to the Gazette, the man and boy got out of the stalled silver Ford and were pushing it to the side of the road when they were hit from behind by a Dodge Durango.
The man was declared dead at the scene. The boy died shortly after arriving at the hospital, the newspaper reported.
Three people who were also in the van were hospitalized with moderate injuries, police said.
No names have been released.
Police said they have detained the driver of the Durango. In a news release, police said the driver “did not realize the van was stopped in a traffic lane.”
The Gazette reported witnesses saw a nurse saw the crash and started doing chest compression on the child while firefighters raced to the scene.
