NEW YORK — A picture of an NYPD officer’s act of kindness went viral after it was posted on Facebook.
Jennifer Foster lives in Arizona, but she was visiting New York when she took a picture of the officer giving a homeless man a pair of boots and socks on a cold night in Times Square Nov. 14.
She posted the photo to Facebook and it became a viral hit when it was posted on the NYPD Facebook page this week.
Newsday reports the officer’s name is Larry DePrimo. He lives in Holbrook, Long Island and he works out of the 6th Precinct in Manhattan.
DePrimo told the New York Times “it was freezing out and you could see the blisters on the man’s feet. I had two pairs of socks and I was still cold.”
The officer went into a Sketchers shoe store. The manager, Joe Cano, offered DePrimo his employee discount which brought the price of the insulated boots from $100 to $75. DePrimo bought the man a pair of thermal socks as well.
“I didn’t think anything of it,” DePrimo says on NYPD’s Facebook page.
