DENVER – An Erie man accused of relentlessly honking his horn at two cyclists in September wants a plea deal in the case.
James Ernst, 75, is charged with two misdemeanor counts of harassment, two counts of illegal use of a horn and two counts of driving too slowly.
The two cyclist he allegedly harassed recorded the incident on video and posted it to YouTube.
In the video, Ernst’s SUV follows them very closely and honks his horn several times.
In court Friday Ernst would not talk to the news media, but did say that the men on the bicycles did not appear to be scared at the time.
He also said he’s been receiving threatening phone calls and mail since the incident.
Ernst told the judge that he wants a plea deal in the case. He did not have an attorney during his Friday appearance and told the judge he hopes to hire one soon.
He is set to appear in court Feb. 14 for a case management conference.
