DENVER – Training camp began Sunday for the Colorado Avalanche, after a three-month lockout and endless negotiations between the National Hockey League and the NHL Players’ Association.
A new collective bargaining agreement was ratified on Saturday, shattering fears that the entire season would be scratched if a deal couldn’t be made.
The Avalanche announced that the team’s first scheduled game will be on Saturday, Jan. 19 at Minnesota against the Wild.
The team’s home opener will be against the LA Kings on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at the Pepsi Center.
This season will only be 48 games, down from the standard 82. The regular season ends April on 27.
