DENVER — Deputies have recaptured the prisoner who escaped from federal custody at Denver International Airport earlier this week.
Phoday Dumbuya, 25, managed to get away from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers at the airport on Tuesday morning. Authorities were escorting Dumbuya to DIA for his deportation flight to Gambia.
ICE officers launched a search immediately, and asked other law enforcement at the airport for help.
Sheriff’s deputies caught Dumbuya in Nebraska at approximately 6 p.m. Friday night.
Dumbuya has a criminal conviction from August 2008 in Denver County District Court for assault, and was sentenced to two years of probation for the crime.
