Dozens of vehicles involved in crashes on I-70 near Silverthorne

I-70 crash near Silverthorne, Colo. March 4, 2013

SILVERTHORNE, Colo. — Emergency workers in Summit County responded to two separate crashes Monday afternoon that involved dozens of vehicles.

Lake Dillon Fire Rescue says the first scene was westbound near Silverthorne where 25 vehicles including some semis piled into each other during a heavy winter snow storm.

Five people went to hospitals. There was only one person with serious injuries reported.

The other scene was about three miles from that location and it involved 29 vehicles. There were no serious injuires reported in that mess.

Large sections of I-70 in the mountains between Floyd Hill and Vail Pass were closed Monday afternoon. The highway fully reopened before sunset.
