MIAMI — Lifeguards kept swimmers on the shore Thursday after thousands of sharks were spotted roaming close by.

WSVN-TV reported the sharks are moving north as part of an annual migration that usually happens in March.  Most of the sharks are Black Tips.

“They’re just kind of hanging out down here throughout February,” FAU Marine Biologist, Shari Tellman told WSVN. “That’s why we’re seeing a lot of them. They’re following the bait fish, and then they head north.”

Wednesday hundreds of sharks were spotted off the Palm Beach County shore.

Beaches were closed as a precaution, but biologists say humans have little to worry about.

Tellman said days when the water is very clear are the safest time to be in the water because sharks can see clearly. When the water is murky, they sharks are more likely to mistake a person for bait fish.
