Greeley man arrested for suffocating, killing wife in 2011
GREELEY, Colo. – A man has been arrested in Greeley for killing his wife on Christmas Eve back in 2011.
The Greeley Tribune reported that 29-year-old Matthew Patrick Gunsallus was arrested Friday night after he went to the Greeley Police Department to pick up some belongings that were used against him as evidence in a rape trial this week.
Gunsallus’ 25-year-old wife, Kristen Elizabeth Lujan, was suffocated to death on Christmas Eve in 2011.
According to the Tribune, there wasn’t enough evidence to charge Gunsallus until his sister turned in a letter that her brother allegedly wrote to her in July saying that he killed his wife.
Gunsallus called police the night of her death to report she was in the shower and choked on her own vomit, according to the paper.
According to Sgt. Susan West with the Greeley Police Department, Gunsallus is accused of suffocating Lujan by covering her face with a pillow after an altercation. He was arrested without incident on suspicion of first-degree murder involving domestic violence.
