Denver police officers involved in shooting, teenaged suspect injured
DENVER — Police say officers shot a 17-year-old suspect who threatened them with two large knives near 39th Ave. and Wolff St. Monday evening.
No officers were hurt.
Police say they were originally responding to a stabbing at about 6:20 p.m. They say they did not find a stabbing victim, but they did encounter a young man sitting in yard who was holding two knives.
“After several commands to drop the knives, the officers felt threatened at which time they fired several shots striking the individual,” said Denver Police Chief Robert White.
White says the suspect was conscious when he was taken to Denver Health Medical Center in critical condition.
Two officers were involved in the incident.
Neighbors were stunned. This happened in daylight while families were outside. “I saw him laying out there,” said Maggie Martin. “He was pretty bloody,” she said.
