Overland teacher suspended for racy tweets no longer employed
DENVER — A teacher at Overland high School who was placed on administrative leave after she allegedly posted racy photos of herself on Twitter is no longer employed by the school district, officials said Friday.
Carly McKinney was suspended January 29 after school district officials saw the photos, which included partially-nude pictures and comments about using drugs.
The Twitter account in question is CarlyCrunkBear, which used the Twitter handle @crunk_bear. The biography on the profile read “Stay high. Stay drunk…Mile High City.”
The account was deleted when McKinney was suspended.
Several tweets sent out by the account indicated the user was grading papers while high and that the user had marijuana on the Overland High School campus.
McKinney was paid through the end of the March, but is no longer working for the Cherry Creek School District, said spokesperson Tustin Amole.
Amole did not say if McKinney was fired or resigned.
Several of McKinney’s students defended her days after her suspension saying McKinney should not be punished for what she does in her free time.
