Man fatally shot in southwest Denver

DENVER — A man was shot to death Wednesday night near the intersection of West Gunnison Drive and South Bryant Street, the Denver Police Department reported.

DPD officers responded around 10 p.m. to a report of a man down. When officers arrived, they found a male lying in the street who appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified as Michael Anthony Chavez.

Witnesses related that after hearing gunshots a dark colored vehicle was observed leaving the scene at a high rate of speed northbound on South Bryant Street.

The death is being investigated as a homicide. There is no suspect information being released at this time.
