DENVER — Colorado is about to get a break from the pattern of drenching rain that has caused flash flooding in several places in recent days.

Heavy rain fell in Aurora and Denver at midday Monday before dry air started moving into the area.

More than an inch of rain fell in Aurora in less than an hour and it created a new lake in Utah Park near S. Peoria St. and E. Jewell Ave. There was a vehicle sitting in several inches of water in a flooded parking lot.

“The next couple of days look dry and warm for Denver and the Front Range,” says Chief Meteorologist Dave Fraser. “The heat returns on Thursday with just a slight chance for a late day thunderstorm. The heavy rain comes back on Friday with flooding again a possibility.”

“Scattered storms will then stay in the forecast each afternoon through the weekend. It’ll turn dry and hot as we look into early next week,” Fraser says.
