3 suspects arrested after shots fired in Civic Center Park
DENVER — Denver police arrested three suspects after shots were fired at Civic Center Park around noon on Thursday.
The shooting happened on Colfax Avenue between Lincoln Street and Broadway just before noon.
Police officer and troopers from the Colorado State Patrol, which is in charge of protecting the nearby state capitol, rushed to the area.
Three men were taken into custody, police said in a tweet. Police said several weapons were found at the scene, although they have not yet said what kind.
No injures have been reported.
The State Capitol was put on a precautionary lockdown shortly after the shooting, but has since reopened.
Colfax was closed between Lincoln and Broadway while officers put up evidence markers and police tape.
It’s not yet clear what started the shooting.
Civic Center Park is a relatively popular spot for workers downtown to go for lunch and connects downtown to popular tourist spots like the Denver Library and the Denver Art Museum. The city hosts a gathering of food trucks on the park for Civic Center EATS on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
In April, two people were shot at Civic Center Park during a 4/20 rally.
