Bear bites woman camping near Pagosa Springs
DURANGO, Colo. — A woman was bitten in the arm by a bear while camping near Pagosa Springs Friday.
The Durango Herald reported that the woman was sleeping alone on a campground south of Pagosa Springs when the bear approached her early Friday morning.
“About 2 a.m., a bear reached into her tent and bit her,” Matt Thorpe, the new area wildlife manager for Colorado Parks and Recreation told the Herald. “She must have pulled her arm away or made a sound, because the bear retreated immediately.”
The woman informed nearby campers about the incident, who alerted police.
The victim, who has not been identified, was treated for her injuries and released.
Thorpe told the Herald that he and three other employees with Colorado Parks and Wildlife returned to the camp site with hounds to track the bear, but did not find the animal.
