It turns out most Americans would go back to simpler times if they could. The most popular decade of the 20th century is the 1950s, according to a new poll in “The Economist.”
The online poll asked Americans which decade they would travel back to. As depicted in the movie “Pleasantville,” the 50s most in the poll preferred was an age of stay-at-home wives, novel household appliances and new suburbs.
The haze of Woodstock in the 60s came in second place.
The poll also found that Republicans preferred the 50s under President Eisenhower and the 80s under Reagan, while Democrats tended to opt for Clinton’s 1990s.
The youngest participants were torn between the jazz age of the roaring 20s and the 90s.
