AURORA, Colo. — The 18-year-old woman who police said stabbed her mother to death Thursday allegedly sent her mother an email the day before saying “You will pay,” according to her arrest affidavit.
Isabella Guzman was arrested in Aurora Thursday afternoon. Her mother was found at their home on S. Lima Street around 10 p.m. Wednesday night.
Neighbors said Guzman and her mother often got into violent arguments and police were seen at the home before the killing.
Her father, Ryan Hoy, told police Guzman had become “more threatening and disrespectful toward her mother in recent days.”
He said Guzman had spit in Yun-Mi Hoy’s face the night before the stabbing, which prompted her to call police Wednesday.
Officers told Guzman that her mother would throw her out of the house because of her behavior. However, Guzman seemed quiet and went to her bedroom for the rest of the night, the affidavit said.
Hoy said his wife came home from work around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday and went up stairs to the bathroom to take a shower. He said he then heard a thump and went upstairs to see what it was.
He said Guzman kept him from opening a door by pushing against it, the affidavit said, but that he noticed “blood coming from under the door to the bathroom.”
Hoy went downstairs to call police and when he returned, he said he saw Guzman standing in the bathroom doorway with a knife. Yun-Mi Hoy was on the floor covered in blood, the affidavit said.
Hoy said Guzman didn’t say anything and “was just staring straight ahead when she walked past him” and went to the backyard of the home, the affidavit said.
Hoy tried to perform CPR on his wife, but she was later pronounced dead when paramedics arrived. The coroner reported that Yun-Mi had been stabbed 31 times and her throat had been slashed.
By the time police arrived, Guzman had fled the house. She was later found at a parking garage of a Parker Road.
During a hearing Friday morning a judge ordered Guzman be held without bond. She is being held in the Arapahoe County Jail.
