Flood damage closes several Jefferson County parks and trails
White Ranch Park damage
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — Flood damage has closed several parks and trails in Jefferson County and left limited access to others.
Jefferson County Open Space managers say there are full closures at Apex Park and Lair o’ the Bear Park.
The Lair o’ the Bear closure includes the Bear Creek Trail segment connecting to Pence Park, O’Fallon Park and Corwina Park with the Denver Mountain Parks system.
In Jefferson County, White Ranch Park and North Table Mountain Park were also heavily affected.
Jeffco Open Space encourages visitors to use parks south of Interstate 70, which are not as heavily damaged. The exception is Lair o’ the Bear and Bear Creek area.
Once staff members complete damage assessment, they will decide on the best strategy for repairing the parks and trails. Reclamation will likely continue into spring 2014. Volunteers interested in helping with rebuilding can follow this link to register.
