Fugitive arrested after 5-hour standoff at Lakewood motel
LAKEWOOD, Co. — Police say a wanted fugitive was captured early Wednesday morning after a more than five-hour standoff at a Lakewood motel.
According to the Lakewood Police Department, 31-year-old Sean Wyles was arrested around 4:30 a.m. at a motel near the intersection of West 6th Avenue and Kipling Street.
Police say they made contact with Wyles at the motel around 11 p.m. Tuesday after learning he was staying there.
A SWAT team was called to the scene because the suspect “indicated he would not be taken peacefully” and made “threatening remarks,” police said. Police added that Wyles has a “lengthy criminal history” and is believed to be associated with a prison gang.
The SWAT team entered Wyles’ motel room around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday and took him into custody using non-lethal tactics, police said.
Wyles was checked for injuries before being taken to the Jefferson County Jail, police said.
