Meet Peyton’s Mannings
Mary and Pat Manning of Peyton, Colo.
PEYTON, Colo. — Mary is from Seattle and was an original Seahawks season ticket holder for 20 years. Pat is from Rochester, NY, and is a life-long Cleveland Browns fan.
Mary and Pat are married and share the last name Manning. They live in Peyton — a small town in El Paso County.
You could say they are Peyton’s Mannings — and they laugh off the irony their names share with the Denver Broncos quarterback.
“How about that?” laughed Pat Manning.
The couple, both football fans, admit they have loyalties elsewhere.
“We don’t like Peyton—Manning that is—just because he used to beat up on the Browns,” said Pat Manning. “Mary doesn’t like John Elway, because the Broncos used to beat up on her Seahawks. That’s why neither of us are big Denver fans.”
Mary Manning said she enjoys watching Peyton Manning play. “I think he’s good; really, really good,” she said.
The town of Peyton is really, well not much of a town, more like a four corners on U.S. 24 heading east to Kansas. There is a general/liquor store and a post office.
“We are Dallas Cowboy fans and were rooting for them Sunday in the epic 51-48 Bronco win,” said Mary Manning. “We have never met Peyton, but being from Peyton it would be fun to say hey to a namesake.”
They’ve never been to a Broncos game and if the Browns or Seahawks ever visit Sports Authority Field at Mile High, they say they might make the run to Denver just to see the guy they love to hate.
For now, they just watch their home teams when they can and hope their Broncos friends will not confuse them with being related to Peyton who doesn’t live in Peyton with the Mannings.
