Man accused of stealing flower urns from cemetery
A Grand Junction man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of stealing $9,000 worth of brass urns from Memorial Gardens cemetery, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office reported.
David Gillespie, 26, was held on $5,000 bond in the thefts of the urns, many of them left on the graves of war veterans. from Memorial Gardens. Gillespie is accused of selling 11 of the urns to a metal company for a total of $124, though the cemetery reported that the items are worth $600 each.
Gillespie told the company he had collected the urns from a Utah property owned by his deceased grandfather.
