DENVER — A construction worker was trapped after a wall collapse in a school building undergoing renovation Thursday.
Firefighters responded to the old Byers Middle School at 120 S. Pearl St. and worked to free the man. They had to make sure there was no further collapse while they removed him from the debris.
Rescuers wheeled him on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance a few minutes before 3:00 p.m.
He was alert and moving as he went to the ambulance. His injuries did not appear to be too serious.
The old school is undergoing renovation to become the new home of Denver School of Science and Technology: Byers according to the school’s website.
It will be the fifth campus in the DSST system.
The Denver School of the Arts was in the Byers Middle School building until 2003. It had been vacant since that time.
