Brighton teenager killed in apparent hunting accident
DENVER — A 14-year-old Brighton boy was shot to death in an apparent hunting accident Saturday, the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Ian Dante Muro was hunting in San Isabel National Forest with his father, mother, and grandfather at the time of the shooting. The family was four miles west of County Road 221 near Forest Service Road 222 on National Forest Service land, officials said.
The father and grandfather called police shortly after 5 p.m. to report that the boy had gone off alone when family members heard a single gunshot and found the boy lying face-up nearby, his rifle across his chest.
Responders, including Undersheriff John Spezze and paramedics, determined that the boy was dead at the scene. Police were treating the shooting as an accident, but investigation was ongoing.
