Pumpkin carving master in rare form
Masterpiece pumpkin carvings
LITTLETON, Colo. — At Jared’s Nursery on Bowles Avenue in Littleton, for a small admission charge you can take the kids through the haunted house, let them roam through a hay bale maze and see some of the most impressive carved pumpkins anywhere in the world.
“I carved my first pumpkin when I was about eight years old,” said Barry Brown who creates Masterpieces in Pumpkin.
“My mom gave me a paring knife, but in the 80s I found Grandpa Barden’s carving tools and man, that was it, I was hooked. My first carving won first prize and Grandpa was so impressed he offered me a job, which I worked at for a few years, before carving out my own path!”
His Masterpiece Halloween display contains more than 300 hand-carved pumpkins with a superhero theme this year.
Times and dates are listed on his website for all of your Halloween fun.
Brown says carving a creative pumpkin is not hard when you use the right tools and patterns like those the Bardeen kits contain.
Best advice: go into the pumpkin from the bottom as he says it’s much better for lighting up the jack-o-lanterns! Happy Halloween!!!
