Firefighters rescue horse from well in Boulder County
BOULDER, Colo. — Firefighters and animal control officers were able to rescue a horse who fell into a deep well Monday morning.
The horse, Rocket, belongs to Brandi Brady, who called the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office after Rocket fell into the well around 7:30 a.m.
“Rocket was submerged up to his head in water,” said Sheriff’s spokeswoman Heidi Prentup.
Brady tied a rope around Rocket’s neck to keep his head above the water until rescuers arrived, Prentup said.
A veterinarian sedated Rocket while workers from the Louisville, Lafayette, and North Metro Fire Departments pumped the water out of the well. Ground Exploration, the company who maintains the well, was able to bring in a hoist and pull Rocket out.
The horse was not seriously injured, Prentup said and after being warmed with blankets and a heated IV, he “got up and was able to walk into a barn.”
