DENVER — An 8-inch water main break just outside the KWGN studios was spewing water onto the roadway, causing major backups near the intersection of East 6th Avenue and Lincoln Street Thursday morning.
The water main break sent water gushing onto Lincoln Street between East 5th Avenue 6th Avenue. Emergency crews diverted traffic from Lincoln onto 5th Avenue in either direction.
The broken pipe was installed in 1968, Denver Water said. The damage was thought to be a “temperature break,” caused when frozen soil creates stress on top of a pipe, the utility said.
KWGN still had running water, and Denver Water confirmed no customers in the area would be without it as crews made repairs Thursday morning.
Around noon, only one lane of Lincoln was blocked while crews made repairs. All traffic restrictions in the area should be removed by 7 p.m. Thursday evening, Denver Water said.
