76-year-old and his son rescue woman who fell through frozen pond
MONUMENT, Colo. – A 76-year-old father and his son pulled a woman to safety Saturday after she crashed through the ice on a pond near Colorado Springs.
The incident happened about noon, Tri-Lakes Monument firefighters said. A woman in her 40s reportedly approached the pond, near Cabin Hill Lane and Pond View Place, after her dog fell into the water, the firefighters said. Somehow, the woman broke through the ice.
The two rescuers, Phil Mehl Sr. and Phil Mehl Jr., were inside a nearby home and heard the woman’s screams. The men crawled out to the edge of the ice and used a rope to drag the woman out of the water and onto solid ice, they said.
They wrapped her in a blanket until help arrived a short time later.
The woman was taken to the hospital in unknown condition, but she was conscious, firefighters said.
The dog’s condition was not immediately known.
