JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — The seven grass fires that ignited Monday morning along a two-mile stretch of W. 44th Avenue could be the result of arson, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The seven fires occurred between 14700 W. 44th Ave. and 18600 W. 44th Ave, said police.

Calls from passing vehicles reporting the fires began coming into the police station just before 9 a.m, said police.

The Golden, Fairmount and Pleasant View fire departments responded to the fires and worked together to extinguish the flames.

In a release on Tuesday, police said they suspect arson is behind the grass fires.

Police are asking anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area or has information about the fires to contact the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 303-271-5612.
