DENVER — Gov. John Hickenlooper ordered flags on all pubic buildings statewide be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Monday in memory of a motorcycle deputy killed in a head-on accident.
Jefferson County Sheriff Sgt. David Baldwin was killed the morning of Jan. 26, after his bike collided with an oncoming SUV along Highway 93.
The SUV driver is believed to have crossed over the double-yellow line, striking the deputy head-on, said Colorado State Patrol.
A funeral for Baldwin will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, according to a release from the governor’s office.
He is survived by a wife and son.
Police said they are still investigating the accident and, now, are seeking the public’s assistance in collecting more information. Anyone who was in the area prior to the incident or who may have stopped to assist Baldwin is asked to contact the Lakewood Police Department at 303-987-7111.
