A 9-year-old wrote a book to help raise money to cure her brother's disease.

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A 9-year-old girl in Florida is on a mission to save her little brother’s life, and she’s enlisting a superhero to help her.

Makenzie Lawrey wrote a book titled Mighty Mito Superhero, which is about her 6-year-old brother, Gavin Lawrey, who suffers from mitochondrial disease.

There is no cure for the deadly disease, and Gavin’s mother said the research for a cure is underfunded.

So, Makenzie wrote a book, hoping to raise $1 million for research towards finding a cure.

Thus far, Makenzie’s book has raised $20,000 in just one week.
