Community helping kitten rescued from suspected cat torturer
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Members of the Colorado Springs community have come together to help support a kitten who was rescued from the home of a man accused of torturing another cat.
He faces a Class 6 felony charge of cruelty to animals.
In a video obtained by the Pueblo Animal Services Animal Law Enforcement, Heckmann can be seen trying to drown and then eventually strangling Loki, a 12-week-old orange kitten, said Gretchen Pressley of the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region and Pueblo Animal Services.
Stewie is at an animal shelter. Veterinarians have determined that he needs a $2,000 surgery to correct a problem with Stewie’s esophagus.
The surgery costs about $2,000. So far through the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region said its donation page has raised more than $3,000 for the surgery.
Any leftover money will go into HSPPR’s Surgery Center fund to help other animals.
