DENVER — One drawback of the extended days of mild weather we’re starting to have in Denver is a problem for drivers.

Potholes are showing up, and it’s happening a little earlier than normal. We get potholes whenever the weather goes from cold to warm rapidly, just like now.

It’s simple the way it works. Water, freezing temperatures and vehicle loads can combine to break apart the surface of a pavement. This process can develop rapidly into potholes that range in severity from a nuisance to a significant safety problem.

The “pothole patrol” is out trying to keep the streets filled whenever they hear about the pesky holes opening up.

You can report a pothole by calling 311 or make a report online here.
