Colo. Springs educator arrested on sexual assault charge

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — An education assistant was taken into police custody Tuesday after allegations involving an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Benjamin Wilkerson, an education assistant at Coronado High School in Colorado Springs, was arrested Tuesday on the charge of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, according the the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Police said the department’s Crimes Against Children Unit received a report Tuesday from the school resource officer as the high school regarding an alleged inappropriate relationship between a student and an educator.

Investigators later determined that an inappropriate relationship did occur between the individuals.

Following the investigation, Wilkerson was taken into custody and transported to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center, said police.
