Fitbit, a company that produces personal fitness-tracking devices, announced a voluntary recall Thursday on one of its products.
James Park, CEO and co-founder of Fitbit, released a statement on the company’s website, addressing recent concerns about the Fitbit Force product causing skin irritation for some customers.
“On behalf of the entire Fitbit team, I want to apologize to anyone affected,” said Parks.
He reported that only 1.7 percent of users experienced skin irritation with the device.
However, the company has ceased selling the Fitbit Force in response to the complaints, and issued a voluntary recall on the product — customers can receive a refund for full retail value.
Parks said the company conducted independent tests on the specific product that indicated some users may be experiencing an allergic contact dermatitis.
Fitbit set up a page on its site devoted to the recall, and also welcomed customers to contact the call center at 1-888-656-6381 with questions or concerns.
