Hwy 13 closed after fuel tanker rolls over, sparks fire

GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo. — Highway 13 was shut down in both directions north of Rifle after a single fuel tanker rolled over.

The accident happened shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday, according to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the crash ignited a fire that spread into the nearby grass and woods.

As of 7 p.m. Sunday, deputies reported that the fire had been extinguished, but that Highway 13 remained closed.

They added that they except the clean up of spilled fuel and hazardous materials to take an extended amount of time.

No one was injured in the crash and no other vehicles were involved, said deputies.
