DENVER — The Denver 2016 Host Committee announced it will submit its formal bid to host the 2016 Republican National Convention on Monday.

A release sent out by the committee said the official bid will be submitted at 11 a.m. Monday morning in the 2nd floor rotunda of the Denver City and County Building.

Mayor Michael B. Hancock, Colorado Rep. committee chairman Ryan Call and Denver 2016 chairman Bob Beauprez will be present for the submission, said the release.

Denver was one of eight cities looking to host the 2016 Republican National Convention.

A representative from the city attended a meeting with GOP officials in Washington earlier in February to gain a deeper understanding of the logistics and challenges of hosting the event, which has the potential to bring in thousands of people for a single week.
