Denver man’s handicapped van stolen
DENVER — Brett Purdom’s 2010 Silver Honda Odyssey specialized van was taken over the weekend by thieves who also used it to haul away loot from other residents at the Bear Valley Condos.
Police think the theft happened between 2:30 a.m. and 6 a.m.
“This van was customized for my condition. I was left a quadriplegic by a roll-over accident which happened in May of 2009. I can’t understand why anyone would want to steal a van with two kids seats in the back and seats missing in the middle row,” Purdom said.
Police told Purdom they think the thieves ‘piggy-backed’ into the garage in the early hours when someone else was heading in the condo unit.
They also say his vehicle probably was just right for all the loot they stole from storage units in the garage under the units.
Now, Purdom is having to spend more than one hundred dollars a run to make appointments at Craig hospital for rehab.
Trying to see his children is also a problem as is running his business.
While he is totally upset at the loss he says if someone knows where it is, he would ask no questions if they would just return it or tell FOX31 where he can find the van.
“I have $50 a day for van rental, but one which I can use costs about $150 a day!” said Purdom.
Police in metro Denver are trying to find the van, if you can help call your local agency.
In the meantime, friends of Purdom have set up a GOFUNDME.com account where donations are being accepted.
