Avalanche kills ski patrol member near Wolf Creek Ski Area
CONEJOS COUNTY, Colo. — An avalanche in southwestern Colorado killed a member of the Wolf Creek Ski Area ski patrol Tuesday.
The slide happened about 1:30 p.m. while he and other patrollers were working on a research project outside the ski area boundaries. The location was south of Platoro Reservoir near Conejos Peak.
He was buried in the avalanche and immediately extricated by his partner and a team of two other ski patrol members who were working in the same area.
The victim was airlifted to Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango where he was pronounced dead.
A team from the Colorado Avalanche Information Center went to the location of the avalanche Wednesday to gather more information about it.
