BLACK HAWK, Colo. — Denver resident Dominic James Gold, 20, received a 12-year suspended sentence Tuesday for an armed robbery in a casino parking lot, but he must complete four years in the Youthful Offender System.

In the early-morning hours of April 4, Gold and Marcus James Gordon, 20, approached a car with two people inside in the Crook’s Palace Casino parking lot.

Gold pointed a gun at the driver and demanded money. As the two struggled, the gun fired, hitting the female passenger in the leg. Gordon then went to the passenger side and took the female’s purse.

Gold and Gordon then left in a car, and were later stopped and arrested in Central City.

Gold pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery in January and must also pay $4,689 in restitution. Gordon pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery in February and will be sentenced April 21.

The Youthful Offender System is a sentencing option as a way to keep younger offenders out of the adult prison system.
