Man arrested for allegedly tweeting ‘100 RTs and I’ll shoot someone’

LOS ANGELES — It’s not uncommon to see Twitter users fishing for re-tweets, but when a Los Angeles man included a chilling photo and a threat in his attempt to get one of his alleged tweets to go viral, he was placed under arrest.

The tweet? “100 RTs and I’ll shoot someone walking.”

Police believe that tweet, along with a photo of a rifle with a scope pointed out a window at a Los Angeles intersection, was posted by 20-year-old Dakkari McAnuff, who was arrested Wednesday, according to KTLA.

The implication seemed to be that that if 100 other Twitter users re-posted or retweeted the initial tweet, which came from the now-suspended Twitter handle @stillDMC, the sender would shoot someone in public.

Los Angeles Police have not confirmed whether the tweet was actually retweeted 100 times. However, police have confirmed that a second tweet posted from the same handle a short time later, which read “Man Down. Mission Accomplished.” and included an image of a bleeding man lying on the street, was indeed a hoax.

As of Thursday, McAnuff was being held on $50,000 bail under suspicion of issuing criminal threats.
