BOULDER, Colo. — Russell Britton, appearing in court in a red jumpsuit, will be charged with first-degree murder and felony murder in the death of Nathaniel Tallman after an advisement hearing Tuesday morning.
Britton, 58, will also face several narcotics charges, prosecutors said. Moises Cazares Mendez, 27, has also been charged in the death.
Tallman, of Lafayette, was shot to death in January after he had planned to meet one of the suspects for a marijuana deal, police said Monday.
Tallman‘s body was found in Wyoming on Thursday. He had been missing since Jan. 23.
According to a police report, Tallman had planned to meet Britton on Jan. 21 “to conduct a marijuana transaction at approximately 7 p.m.”
Phone records from Tallman showed he contacted Britton on the way to the meeting.
Investigators talked to Britton, who said Tallman never showed up to the meeting, the arrest report said.
However, when detectives searched Britton’s Ford van, they “found blood in the rear section,” the report said.
The blood was matched via DAN analysis to Tallman.
Mendez is being held in San Diego on a charge of first-degree murder on a $1 million bond.
