DENVER – Spring weather will eventually get here and stay here and many people are trying to slim down.
Some local restaurants are taking the lead in helping you to stay in shape.
Racines is one of several restaurants participating in the “Take it Home” program, where it will prepackage half of your meal so you can take it home, then have it for lunch the next day – and not eat the whole thing in one sitting.
Meals at restaurants are designed to be delicious and that can mean added calories from butter or sugar. If you ask to have a 1,000-calorie meal cut in half, you’re still out having a good time without asking your body to process all of those calories at once.
Researchers say it’s just too easy to forget how much you’re eating while dining out. One reason is that many of us are taught to “clean our plate.”
A Cornell University study showed people who were served a bottomless bowl of soup ate 73 percent more of it than those who just got a limited-serving size.
But it’s all about the portion sizes if you want to drop a few pounds – or just keep your family healthy.
Other programs participating in the “Take it Home” program are Elways in Cherry Creek, Osteria Marco in Larimer Square and Sam’s No. 3.
You can do this at any restaurant. Don’t be afraid to ask them to just prepackage half of your meal ahead of time.
