GOLDEN, Colo. — The Colorado School of Mines is getting ready to build a new Welcome Center at 18th and Illinois streets in Golden, but a historic home is on the site.

So in an attempt to preserve the home, considered a piece of history by the city’s Historic Preservation Board, the city of Golden and CSM have agreed to give it away in hopes of preserving it if anyone can commit to moving it by April 1.

The home is 935 square feet and must be moved by mid-May. Because it is considered state property that can’t be given away, whoever takes the home must “buy” it for a nominal charge, the city said in a news release.

There are other requirements needed to move the home. Anyone interested can call Golden Planning Manager Rick Muriby at 303-384-8098.
