IRS gives flood victims additional time on when to claim losses
WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service announced Wednesday that Colorado taxpayers can have until Oct. 15 to decide when to claim disaster losses from last year’s devastating floods along the Front Range.
The original deadline for 2013 returns was April 15 but now there is a six-month extension to decide whether to make the claims on 2012 or 2013 returns.
Those who are eligible suffered uninsured or unreimbursed losses in the 20 federally designated disaster area counties from Sept. 11-30. The counties are Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Clear Creek, Crowley, Denver, El Paso, Fremont, Gilpin, Jefferson, Lake, Larimer, Lincoln, Logan, Morgan, Pueblo, Sedgwick, Washington and Weld.
